Airtel- Kenya and the United Nations Global Compact
Airtel Networks Kenya, Ltd. has submitted their first annual Communication in Progress report to the United Nations Global Compact for year 2014/2015. The United Nations Global Compact is the “ world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative” that helps align global business with 10 principles on human, rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption and take actions that advances societal objectives. Airtel- Kenya has been a participant since August 2014.
With more that 12,000 signatories from 170 countries- 168 Kenyan organizations participating so far, the possibilities of impacting society around the world will be significant. The commitment of organizations worldwide to be part of an initiative that promotes human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption is also in the to the biggest concerns of people, essentially the market.
The interest of the community where any organizations is operating would certainly have to aligned with business approaches. Bharti Airtel Africa’s corporate social responsibility have been a forefront policy of the company in terms of giving back to society. The company has over 600 CSR initiatives across sub-Saharan Africa. With operations based on 17 countries across the region, the opportunity of helping out certainly is a priority.
Active participation of global businesses with common motivation to promote responsible business operation that highlights human, rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption will both be better opportunity for the community and business.
